1. Purpose

This Safety Information gives you practical tips for using NearBuddy more safely when meeting new people. It complements the NearBuddy Community Guidelines and Child Safety Standards, which set the rules everyone must follow. This guide is advice, not a set of guarantees: meeting new people always carries some risk, and your own judgement is your best protection. NearBuddy is for adults aged 18 or older.

2. Effective Date and Last Updated

"Effective Date" means the date and time on which NearBuddy first becomes publicly available to users through either Google Play or the Apple App Store, whichever occurs first.

This Safety Information applies from the Effective Date. A later release of NearBuddy on the second store does not create or reset the Effective Date. The initial "Last Updated" date is the Effective Date; if this Safety Information is later revised, the "Last Updated" date becomes the date of that revision (see Section 32).

3. NearBuddy is for adults only

NearBuddy is strictly for people aged 18 or older. Minors must not create or use an account, and no one may misrepresent their age. If you believe an account belongs to someone under 18, report it (Section 20).

4. Safety limitations — please read

Please understand what NearBuddy can and cannot do:

  • You are responsible for exercising your own judgement when interacting with, or meeting, other people.
  • NearBuddy does not verify every user's identity, age, intentions, background, or claims, and does not perform identity checks, police verification, background checks, or guaranteed age or scam detection.
  • An anonymous account does not mean you should automatically trust the person using it, and NearBuddy does not guarantee that every profile is genuine.
  • NearBuddy does not proactively monitor every private message, profile, image, or interaction.
  • Report and Block are safety tools you can use, but the absence of constant monitoring does not make harmful conduct acceptable.
  • NearBuddy cannot guarantee your personal safety, your compatibility with anyone, or how another person will behave.
  • If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency or law-enforcement authority (Section 26).

5. Profile and identity caution

  • Do not assume a profile is genuine just because it appears in the app.
  • Be cautious if someone's information is inconsistent, if they rush you, try to manipulate you, or seem "too good to be true."
  • Take your time getting to know someone before sharing personal details or meeting.

6. Personal-information safety

Protect your personal information:

  • Do not share sensitive information early in a conversation.
  • Never share passwords, one-time codes (OTPs), bank details, card details, PINs, government-ID numbers, your home address, your workplace, or other sensitive information.
  • Do not display phone numbers, WhatsApp details, email addresses, or social-media handles publicly on your profile.
  • You may choose to share external contact details privately, and only after a mutual match — and even then, only with someone you are comfortable with.
  • Use good judgement before moving a conversation off NearBuddy; once you do, NearBuddy's tools may no longer be able to help you.

7. Private-message safety

Private conversations between consenting adults are private, and NearBuddy does not proactively monitor them — so please stay alert. Be cautious of: unwanted sexual messages; threats, harassment, coercion, manipulation, or blackmail; intimate-image abuse; scams and financial requests; pressure to move quickly to another platform; requests for confidential information; and links or files from people you do not know. If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, stop engaging, and use Block and Report.

8. Sexual harassment and coercion

You never have to accept unwanted sexual messages, pressure, or coercion. Avoid sending intimate or sensitive content you would not want copied or shared. If someone sends unwanted sexual content, pressures you, or tries to coerce or blackmail you, block them and report them.

9. Scams and financial requests

Romance and dating scams are common across all platforms. Protect yourself:

  • Do not send money to another user.
  • Do not pay for someone's travel, emergencies, medical needs, investments, gifts, crypto, loans, fees, or "verification."
  • Do not share card, bank, UPI, OTP, PIN, or any payment credentials.
  • Be very suspicious of anyone who claims a payment is needed to "unlock" a relationship, a match, or an account.
  • Treat refund, subscription, entitlement, or account-recovery "offers" from other users as scams.

If someone asks you for money or payment details, stop, do not pay, and report them.

10. Safe subscription payments

  • The optional NearBuddy Ad-Free Subscription is purchased only through Google Play or the Apple App Store, depending on your device.
  • NearBuddy does not directly collect your card or bank details.
  • NearBuddy will never ask you to transfer a subscription payment to another user or to a personal account.
  • Do not buy a "NearBuddy subscription" from any other source, and do not follow unofficial payment links.

Be careful with links and files. Do not open links or download files from people you do not know or trust, and never enter your NearBuddy or other credentials on a page someone sends you.

12. Moving communication outside NearBuddy

You are free to decide whether to continue a conversation on another service, but do so carefully and only after a mutual match, with someone you are comfortable with. Remember that once you leave NearBuddy, NearBuddy's Report, Block, and other tools may no longer be able to help you.

13. Meeting in person

If you decide to meet someone, plan ahead:

  • Take your time — there is no need to rush into meeting.
  • Tell a trusted friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Meet in a public, populated place for the first few times.
  • Avoid isolated or private locations for an initial meeting.
  • Leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable, and contact local emergency services if you are in danger.

NearBuddy does not supervise, verify, arrange, or guarantee any offline meeting.

14. Transport and location planning

  • Arrange your own independent transport to and from the meeting.
  • Keep control of your return journey so you are not dependent on the other person.
  • Do not share your home address, and avoid being picked up from or dropped at your home early on.
  • Keep your phone charged and with you.

15. Food, drinks, alcohol, and judgement

  • Do not leave your food or drink unattended, and be cautious about accepting drinks you did not see prepared.
  • Limit alcohol or anything else that could impair your judgement, especially on a first meeting.
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, leave.

16. Location privacy

NearBuddy uses your location to help show nearby people and to calculate distance, and your exact location is not shown to other users — others see only an approximate distance. To protect yourself:

  • Do not disclose your exact live location, home address, or daily routine to someone you do not trust.
  • Be cautious about revealing your workplace, travel routes, or places you visit regularly.
  • You can control location permission in your device settings; turning it off may limit nearby features. NearBuddy does not use background location.

17. Photo and visible-information safety

  • Upload only photos that you own or are allowed to use.
  • Avoid images that reveal sensitive details — such as your address, documents, ID cards or badges, vehicle number plates, children, or other private information.
  • NearBuddy removes embedded EXIF/location (GPS) metadata from photos, but you should still check what is visibly shown in an image before uploading it.
  • NearBuddy does not guarantee detection of every inappropriate or deceptive image.

18. Public-profile standards

Your public profile must stay clean and appropriate. Nudity, pornography, sexually explicit or indecent visuals, exploitative content, and illegal content are prohibited, as set out in the Community Guidelines. Public profiles must not display phone numbers, social-media handles, or other external contact details.

19. Child safety

NearBuddy is strictly for adults aged 18 or older. All child sexual abuse and exploitation is strictly prohibited, including grooming, solicitation, sexualisation, trafficking, sextortion, and any sexual content involving minors. This has no place on NearBuddy. For full details, see the NearBuddy Child Safety Standards.

20. Underage reporting

If you believe an account belongs to a person under 18, or you have any child-safety concern:

  • report the account in the app using the Report tool with the Underage reason;
  • you may also block the account;

21. Block

You can block another user at any time. After a successful block, you and that person can no longer interact, you are removed from each other's discovery, and any relevant likes, dislikes, and mutual-like relationships between you are removed. Blocking is permanent within its intended scope, and there is no user-facing unblock process — a block is meant to be final.

22. Report

You can report a profile using the in-app Report tool and its available reasons. Reporting is an important safety tool, but on its own it does not automatically remove or suspend another user; if you also want to stop interacting, use Block as well. The person you report is not told that a report was submitted. NearBuddy does not promise an individual response, a specific outcome, an appeal, or a set review time for any report.

23. When to stop communication

Consider stopping the conversation, and using Block and Report, if the other person:

  • pressures you or ignores your boundaries;
  • asks you for money or sensitive information;
  • threatens or tries to blackmail you;
  • sends unwanted sexual content;
  • appears to be underage;
  • gives inconsistent information about who they are;
  • asks you to bypass NearBuddy's restrictions or to hide the interaction;
  • pressures you to move off NearBuddy immediately; or
  • attempts any kind of fraud or manipulation.

24. Account and recovery limits

NearBuddy uses anonymous accounts, without a phone number, email, or password. Because of this, a lost, deleted, or inaccessible account cannot be recovered. Keep this in mind, protect your device and access, and do not rely on NearBuddy to restore an account you can no longer reach.

25. Account deletion and subscriptions

Account deletion is permanent: deleted content cannot be restored, and paid benefits do not transfer to a new account. Deleting your NearBuddy account does not by itself cancel a Google Play or Apple subscription — if you do not want it to renew, cancel it separately through the applicable app store. 26. Urgent danger

NearBuddy is not an emergency-response service. If you or another person is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or the appropriate law-enforcement authority in your country without delay. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, keep any relevant information, but do not put yourself at additional risk to collect evidence. Urgent child-safety concerns may also be sent to the Child Safety Contact (Section 20).

29. Relationship with the Community Guidelines

This Safety Information supports the NearBuddy Community Guidelines, which set out the conduct rules for all users, including the Report and Block tools. This guide offers practical safety advice; the Community Guidelines set the rules.

30. Relationship with the Child Safety Standards

This Safety Information should be read together with the NearBuddy Child Safety Standards, which set out NearBuddy's zero-tolerance approach to child sexual abuse and exploitation and how to report it.

31. Relationship with the Privacy Policy and Data Policy

How your information is collected and handled is explained in the NearBuddy Privacy Policy and, in plainer language, the NearBuddy Data Policy, both available on the NearBuddy website.

32. Changes and Last Updated

NearBuddy may update this Safety Information from time to time. When there is a material change, NearBuddy will update the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, provide further notice. The current version is always available on the NearBuddy website. The "Last Updated" date of this Safety Information is the Effective Date for this initial version; if it is later revised, the "Last Updated" date becomes the date of that revision.
